COMMODITY MARKET STRATEGY. 22 NOVEMBER 2013

BASE METAL WRAP:
Copper futures inched higher on Thursday, as investors looked ahead to key U.S. economic data due later in the session to gauge the strength of the economy and the need for further stimulus.

ENERGY WRAP:
West Texas Intermediate crude traded near the highest price in three weeks after applications for unemployment benefits in the U.S. declined, signaling a sustained economic recovery in the world’s biggest oil consumer.

PRECIOUS METAL WRAP:
Gold traded near a four-month low, heading for the worst weekly performance since September, after the U.S. Federal Reserve signaled that it may scale back stimulus in the coming months, hurting demand.

BASE METAL WRAP:
Copper declined after minutes from the Federal Reserve’s last meeting signaled U.S. stimulus may be cut in coming months and negative private manufacturing data of China.
ENERGY WRAP:
West Texas Intermediate fell for a second day as investors weighed a possible easing of economic stimulus in the U.S., the world’s biggest oil consumer. Crude inventories rose for a ninth week.

PRECIOUS METAL WRAP:
Gold traded near the lowest level in more than four months after the U.S. Federal Reserve signaled that policy makers may reduce monthly bond purchases in the coming months and investment holdings contracted.

BASE METAL WRAP:

Copper futures fell for on signs that the U.S. housing recovery may be slowing, fueling speculation that demand will ebb for the metal used in pipes and wiring.

ENERGY WRAP:

West Texas Intermediate oil swung between gains and losses near a five-month low as investors weighed the prospect that the U.S. will taper economic stimulus. Crude stockpiles probably declined after eight weeks of increases, according to a Bloomberg News survey.

PRECIOUS METAL WRAP:
Gold fell as investors weighed comments from Fed policy makers about the outlook for stimulus amid a rally in equities that’s cut demand for the metal as an alternative investment. Platinum and palladium dropped to one-month lows and silver retreated to the lowest since August.
