INDIAN COMMODITY MARKET OUTLOOK-01 JANUARY 2014

 INDIAN BENCHMARKS are likely to start 2014 on a flat note on account of subdued global cues.  India's fiscal deficit touched 94% to Rs. 5.1 trillion during April-November period against Rs 5.42 trillion projected in budget estimates.
FURTHER, State Bank of India has got shareholders' approval for raising up to Rs 11,500 crore by way of Qualified Institutional Placement or public offer. Morgan Stanley picked up 1.67 crore shares of Coal India Ltd for Rs 485 crore through open market route.

INDIAN BENCHMARKS slipped into negative zone after making a gap up opening tracking positive global cues. Asian markets are up today as US Federal Reserve has decided to taper its stimulus program beginning January but decided to keep interest rates at historic lows on yesterday.

FURTHER, DLF has completed sale of its 74 percent stake in the joint venture DLF Pramerica Life Insurance to Dewan Housing Finance for an estimated Rs 250-300 crore.  Biocon have entered into a licensing and collaboration agreement for the development of a range of small interfering RNA-based novel therapeutics.

Copper declined for the first time in eight days as investors await the outcome of the U.S. Federal Reserve’s two-day meeting starting today amid speculation that the central bank will cut stimulus.

ENERGY WRAP:
West Texas Intermediate fell after rising the most in almost a week before a government report tomorrow that may show gasoline and distillate inventories increased in the U.S., the world’s biggest oil consumer.

PRECIOUS METAL WRAP:

INDIAN MARKET OUTLOOK - 17 December 2013

INDIAN BENCHMARKS are likely to open positive remain cautious today ahead of a key Federal Reserve decision this week and RBI’s Monetary Policy. Canara Bank is to raise up to 15 bln rupees of Tier 2 capital in a Basel III-compatible financing.

 

FURTHER, Coal India's board of directors at its meeting held on Monday also approved revision of raw non-coking coal sizing charges for different sizes and rapid loading charges with effect from today. HDFC Bank foreign holding was above the 49% market when the new guidelines were introduced, RBI notified that no further purchase of shares of the bank will be allowed for FIIs.

 

Trend in FII flows: The FIIs were net buyers of Rs.159cr in the cash segment on Monday while the domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net sellers of Rs. 129cr, as per the provisional figures released by the NSE.

INDIAN MARKET OUTLOOK - 16 December 2013

INDIAN BENCHMARKS closed lower for the fifth consecutive session as higher-than-expected November wholesale price inflation has upped the probability of a rate hike by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in its upcoming monetary policy review on December 18. As well as investors remained jittery ahead of RBI and US Fed meetings on their respective monetary policies, later in the week.

Further, Sesa Sterlite has surged nearly 6% to Rs 203 on hopes of the restarting its iron ore mines in the state of Karnataka. Shares of Tata Chemicals fell 5 percent after the Reserve Bank of India placed a cap on further foreign institutional investments in the company.

The crucial resistance for Nifty is now seen at 6210 and above this 6290. Support for the immediate term is now placed at 6140 and next support will be 6100.

Gold halted two days of losses on speculation the price decline toward a five-month low may lure buyers, countering concern that the Federal Reserve may reduce stimulus as soon as next week. Silver fell to a one-week low.
